I recently met a truly inspirational constituent at my surgery in Northwich.
Emi Lou Howe from Helsby is campaigning to change how the media and fashion industries portray body image.
She started her campaign after having a mastectomy for breast cancer, starting a blog about her experience and setting out to encourage others to love and celebrate their bodies, even if it didn’t conform to the very narrow ‘ideal’ that we see depicted so often now.
Emi Lou is a young mum and has also raised much-needed money for charity and is continuing to try and change not only how people are viewed and depicted in the media, but also how they view themselves – a really important goal that I said I’ll be only too happy to help support.
One way of doing that is through things like this (publicity on social media) but I’ll also be writing to the government and tabling questions in Parliament to try and get Emi Lou’s campaign all the help and attention I can. She has also launched a petition which can be signed at: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/208103
